Over 9,000 people descended on Beacon Park last Saturday to celebrate the return of Lichfield District Council 's annual Lichfield Proms event.

The end-of-summer event returned for it's twenty-second year and featured music from Eureka Jazz and a concert by the British Police Symphony Orchestra.

The British Police Symphony Orchestra took to the stage at 7.30pm and were conducted by Richard Jenkinson. The orchestra was also joined by experienced compere Danny Mizon and the singers, Claire Prewer and Anando Mukerjee.

The programme included themes from 2001 Space Odyssey, James Bond and Monty Python 's Flying Circus, as well as a medley from The Sound of Music, Nessun Dorma the Love Duet from Madam Butterfly and more.

The evening ended with everyone on their feet, waving their Union Flags to the proms anthems, Rule Britannia, Jerusalem and Land of Hope and Glory, to a firework finale overhead.

Councillor Iain Eadie, cabinet member responsible for Parks & Leisure, said: “It was such a fantastic evening and wonderful to be outside with so many members of our community, celebrating together. It was a joy to see everyone having a great time, waving their flags and lighty uppy things, enjoying the music and the atmosphere.

“Thank you to all the team who worked so hard over the year to organise Lichfield Proms, to all the sponsors who help support this spectacular event, and to the brilliant musicians for entertaining us. We must also thank our volunteers who helped us on the night and with the clean-up. ”

Lichfield Proms in Beacon Park 2021 was sponsored by Strongs Plastic Products Ltd, Prizm Solutions, Morespace 4 U, Lichfield Chamber of Trade & Commerce, Allen Brown Jewellery, Beacon Street Garage, The Best of Lichfield, Blueprint Designs, Grosvenor Shutters, C Residential, Wilcox Refinishers and Secret Garden.
