Top Brazilian blues musicians to perform free gig at Henry’s Blueshouse in Birmingham
A world-famous Brazilian slide guitarist and vocalist is starring in a free concert with his blues-rock band in Birmingham UK next week.
Big Gilson & Blues Dynamite will perform in Henry’s Blueshouse at Barbara's Bier Haus on Broad Street on Tuesday 6 October.
The rare appearance is part of Big Gilson’s Back2Blues UK Tour 2026, which also sees him playing at Stevenage, Luton, Ashburton in Devon, Bletchley, near Milton Keynes, Southgate in North London and Ruislip, West London.
Jim Simpson, owner of Big Bear Music, which runs Henry’s Blueshouse, said: “This is a great and rare opportunity to see this acclaimed blues-rock guitarist from Rio de Janeiro.
“The gig will include Big Gilson’s original blues songs as well as inspired versions of blues classics from legends such as John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, T-Bone Walker, Etta James, Elmore James, Big Bill Broonzy, Robert Johnson, Jimmy Reed and Freddie King.
“We can’t wait for what’s going to be one of best Henry’s gigs of the year, and with free admittance we’re expecting Barabara’s Bier House to be packed to the rafters!
“What’s even better for blues fans is that all drinks are 50 per cent off until 10pm, and with doors opening at 7pm and live music running from 8 to 10pm that means half-price drinks for the entire duration of the gig.”
Renowned as a pioneer of the Brazilian blues scene, Big Gilson has spent nearly 40 years touring globally and is highly regarded as a masterful electric slide guitar player, fusing raw, emotive Chicago-style blues with high-energy blues-rock
Throughout his extensive career, he has released 18 albums including acclaimed live albums recorded in New York, Dallas and Florida.
Big Gilson has previously been on stage as an opener for blues and rock royalty, including B.B.King, Buddy Guy, Steve Winwood and Robert Cray.
The Blues Dynamite UK band will feature Chris Sharley on drums (ex-Sassafras and Mick Clarke Band), Derek White on bass and Ian Salisbury on keys (both from Larry Miller’s band.)
