‘Top Hat’ spoken word open mic night returns to Garrick

The Lichfield Garrick will host its third spoken word open mic on Wednesday 15 May (7pm).

Once again hosted and organized by local poet, Joss Musgrove Knibb, the Top Hat open mic night will take place in the Lichfield Garrick Studio.

Joss said: “There's something so life-affirming about a group of people coming together to share their creativity.

“At the last event we were treated to poems that took us away from the everyday into vibrant new worlds of comedy, beauty, poignancy and power, rounded off by the spellbinding storytelling of a ghostly romance.

“Writing can be a bit of a solitary vocation, so this event offers a laid-back atmosphere of appreciation and encouragement, alongside professional staging, lighting and sound.”

In keeping with its namesake, participants’ names are put into a top hat and drawn at random by Joss on the night, to determine who will perform, and offer everyone a fair chance.

Joss encourages even those who do not wish to perform, as every performer needs an audience, and it will be a beautiful evening of words.

Anyone who would love to get involved can secure their spot by booking through the Garrick’s website directly or by contacting the theatre at 01543 412121.

Alternatively, names can be added to the list at the door on the night. All names will then go into the hat, ready to be drawn.

Entry £3 per person. Doors open at 6.30pm, and performances start at 7pm.
