University alumnus lands top banking job in Nigeria

Dr Olayemi Cardoso (pictured), an alumnus of Aston University, has been selected to lead one of Nigeria's biggest financial institutions. 

Dr Cardoso, a graduate in managerial and administrative studies from the University in the 1970s, has been appointed as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Following his graduation, he embarked on a 30-year career as a financial sector and development policy expert.

President Bola Tinubu has granted his endorsement for Dr Cardoso's appointment, subject to confirmation by the Senate, for a tenure of five years. This appointment reflects Dr Cardoso's exceptional track record and expertise in the field of banking and finance.

Professor Zoe Radnor, pro vice-chancellor and executive dean for the College of Business and Social Sciences at Aston University, said: “Aston University extends its heartfelt congratulations to Dr Olayemi Cardoso on this momentous appointment.

“His success serves as an inspiration to current and future generations of Aston University graduates, showcasing the potential for impactful contributions to the global financial sector.”
