University welcomes student admissions after exam heroics

The University of Staffordshire joined colleges across North Staffordshire today to celebrate A Level, T Level and BTEC results day.

This morning, Vice-Chancellor Professor Martin Jones greeted local students as they opened their results and offered a personal congratulations to those who have secured a place at University of Staffordshire.

Among them is Rachel Stanley, who attended Newcastle College and will be going on to study Midwifery. 

Rachel, from Newcastle-under-Lyme, said: “I went to an open day to find out about the course and thought the facilities and the lecturers were amazing. I can’t wait to start in September.” 

Persephone Waddicor, from Newcastle-under-Lyme, picked up her results from Stoke-on-Trent Sixth Form College and will be attending University of Staffordshire to study Games Design.

She said: “University of Staffordshire has such a great reputation for games, the best in the country! The course looks amazing, and I was so impressed with the motion capture studio.

“Although I’m local I’m going to be moving into halls on campus as I want the full university experience.”

Executive Dean Mike Phillips visited students at Stoke-on-Trent College, where Ella-Faye Jackson and Grace Mountford collected their Health and Social Care BTEC results and both achieved a triple distinction.

Ella-Faye, from Blurton, is going on to a degree in Early Childhood Studies.

She said: “I absolutely love working with children!

“University of Staffordshire was my top choice, I’ve always wanted to come. I came to an open day and the lecturer was lovely, so it seemed like the best place for me.”

Although being local, Ella-Faye has decided to live in student accommodation on campus, adding: “It’s a chance for me to become more independent but I’m close enough that my mum can still help out with the food shop!” 

Grace, from Werrington, plans to commute to University of Staffordshire and will study Policing and Criminal Investigation.

She said: “I’ve been worrying about it, so it’s a relief to get my results! I do feel proud. I’m interested in true crime and I want to work within the police. I chose University of Staffordshire because I wanted to stay local and my sister went there and said good things!”

“I want to congratulate everyone collecting their A Level, T Level and BTEC results.

“Take a moment to reflect on just how much work you’ve put in to reach this milestone – you should feel proud. For those joining us in September, we can’t wait to welcome you into our community.
