Valentine’s Day flash mob in Birmingham today
The Active Wellbeing Society and women’s charity WE:ARE will be joining the One Billion Rising Movement with a flash mob today at Birmingham City Centre.
This year’s event is at 1pm on the 14 February on the section of the High Street between Union Street and New Street.
One Billion Rising is believed to be the biggest mass action to end violence against women in human history.
The campaign launched on Valentine’s Day 2012 and began as a call to action based on the UN statistic that one in three women on the planet will be beaten or raped during their lifetime. With the world population at 7 billion, this adds up to more than one billion women and girls.
The 2023 Birmingham flash mob brought together communities, organisations, and individuals all through the joy of movement and dance and the public is invited to rise for peace, compassion, kindness, connection, community, and care. Click here to view the choreography.
All genders, ages, abilities, and folks of all backgrounds are welcome to join.
Participants are encouraged to come dressed ready to move and in footwear that will be safe to dance in as the ground may be uneven.
