War in Ukraine: What happened this week?

As the conflict in the Ukraine continued, there were a number of new developments this week.

These included more sanctions from the UK on Russia, a new package of support for Ukraine and talks between Russian and Ukrainian officials.

Here, ChamberlinkDaily provides an update on what has happened over the past week.

Friday 25 March

At the NATO and G7 leaders ' meetings, the Prime Minister announced a new package of support for Ukraine including 6,000 missiles (consisting of anti-tank and high explosive weapons) and £25m in financial backing for the Ukrainian military.

Monday 28 March

The Home Office said it was “doing everything possible to ensure a rapid visa service ” as a number of Ukrainians based in the UK voiced frustration at the challenges they faced in trying to bring relatives to this country due to ongoing Visa delays.

Meanwhile, Russian oligarch and Chelsea FC owner Roman Abramovich was among peace negotiators who suffered symptoms of suspected poisoning after a meeting in Kyiv earlier, it was revealed.

Tuesday 29 March

Moscow said it would "drastically reduce" its military operations in two key areas of Ukraine "to boost mutual trust" in the talks, which are being held in Istanbul.

Wednesday 30 March

Russia has stressed it is switching its focus to eastern Ukraine. UK defence intelligence said is "likely a tacit admission" that it is struggling to sustain operations in the north.

Thursday 31 March

Foreign Secretary Liz Truss announced 14 new sanctions on Russian propagandists and state media who spread lies and deceit about Russia 's invasion of Ukraine.
