War in Ukraine: What happened this week?

The UK announced further support for Ukraine as the conflict with Russia entered its fifth week.

Further sanctions were also imposed on Russia this week - including organisations who have aided the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Friday 18 March

The Armed Forces Minister shares that the UK is now in the process of training up Ukrainians to use Starstreak anti-aircraft missile systems, which are expected to arrive in Ukraine 'imminently '.

UK media regulator, Ofcom, revokes Russian-backed television channel Russia Today 's licence to broadcast in the UK with immediate effect.

Monday 21 March

Downing Street publicly blames the Russian state for hoax telephone calls made to UK ministers.

Tuesday 22 March

UK provides Ukrainian forces with more than 4,000 anti-tank missile systems.

Wednesday 23 March

The UK is expected to send a further 3,300 weapons to Ukraine which could include anti-aircraft weapons.

Thursday 24 March

Foreign Secretary Liz Truss has announced 65 sanctions, targeting strategic industries, banks and business elites.

The sanctions target those aiding Russia 's invasion of Ukraine including the Wagner Group, multiple defence companies and Russian Railways.

The UK has now sanctioned over 1,000 individuals and businesses under the Russia sanctions regime since the invasion.
