Wesleyan staff raise £23k for Motor Neuron Disease
140 staff members from Birmingham-based financial mutual Wesleyan took part in their latest charity challenge.
It was an 18-mile walk via five of Birmingham's sports grounds, raising £23,000 for the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation.
The Wesleyan Sports Tour started at Wesleyan head quarters on Colmore Row and continued via Villa Park, the Alexander Stadium, The Hawthorns, Edgbaston and St Andrews.
£23,000 was raised for the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation by staff members and the funds were later matched by the Wesleyan Foundation. The money will be used to support families facing the life-changing battle with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) and to finance important research for a cure.
Jacob Ayre, community and citizenship manager at Wesleyan said; “I am so proud of this event, so many Wesleyan team members completing the walk together in the sweltering heat and hitting our fundraising target is fantastic.
“This money will support Darby Rimmer MND Foundation to fund vital research and provide much needed support for those with Motor Neurone Disease. Within our walking teams we had colleagues who had lost family members and friends to this disease. It was an inspiring event to be a part of.”
