Wine events firm to host Fairtrade tasting

The Wine Events Company have secured a contract with Central England Co-operative to deliver a free Fairtrade wine tasting during Co-op Fortnight.

Guests purchase the wines from their local Co-op but can join the online tasting for free.

The event takes place on 24 June, and will feature a range of the most popular Fairtrade wines. Attendees will also be entered into a prize draw to win a case of Fairtrade wine.

Founded eighteen months ago, Solihull based events business, The Wine Events Company, already work with some of the region 's finest venues including Millennium Point, Asha 's, Village Hotels, Hyatt, Loki Wines and more.

The Wine Events Company is a family business, owned and operated by Tony and Lucy Elvin. Solihull Chamber president Tony is general manager at Touchwood in Solihull but was formerly general manager at Hotel du Vin Birmingham where he also managed the wider group 's wine events programme.

“We never planned to set up our own business, ” Tony explained, “I left Hotel du Vin to take up a fantastic role as general manager at Touchwood, I 'm still there and absolutely love it, but I kept getting calls from people asking me to host an event for them. I told them I 'd left the hotel / events industry and they said we know, but just wondered if you could do it anyway.

"Unlike hotels there just isn 't the same requirement for me to work in the evenings in my current position and I 've never been one to sit around so I thought why not, it 's something Lucy and I can do together, wine is a shared passion and we 'll have great fun doing it. ”

“There 's plenty of people doing great, professional wine tasting events but we wanted to do something a bit different, something more accessible and a bit more fun ” Tony added.

The Wine Events Company offers film nights accompanied by wine and cocktails, wine and food pairing events, and wine tastings.

On the 19 June The Wine Events Company will be hosting a prosecco lunch at the Village Hotel in Shirley.

On the 30 June the team are hosting a Solihull Wine Club event featuring Wines of the Loire Valley where guests will get to taste six wines for £20.

Then on the 17 July, the business will host a screening of Dirty Dancing accompanied by cocktails at Millennium Point.
