Works to connect essential services to i54 extension begin
Work to connect essential services to the i54 South Staffordshire Western extension site has started this week.
The work is taking place on Wobaston Road, which runs next to the site, with the scheme due to be completed in early April.
For work to be carried out safely, Wobaston Road is reduced to single lane traffic with signals in place throughout.
Works are taking place between the junction of Innovation Drive and Overstrand Road. Signals are in place at both junctions, in addition to those with Pendeford Lane and The Droveway.
When the Western extension is complete, more than 100,000 square metres of land will be developed for more employers to move into the bustling business park. New employers are due to move into the Western extension in 2022.
Major firms such as Jaguar Land Rover and Moog Aerospace already occupy units at the site.
Staffordshire County Council 's cabinet member for highways and transport David Williams said: “This service connection work is essential for the development of the i54 South Staffordshire Western extension, where work is continuing on schedule, with on-site works due to be completed in the summer.
“Unfortunately, Wobaston Road will need to be reduced to a single lane while the services connection is carried out. Traffic signals will be operating on junctions along this short section of road.
“While we anticipate less traffic at this time due to ongoing pandemic travel restrictions, we advise people who do need to make essential journeys in this area to allow additional time. We would like to apologise in advance for any disruption during the works period.
“The western extension project is scheduled to be completed this summer, leading to major investment, job creation and a boost to our economy as we move out of the pandemic. ”
