A show which proved to be a major hit at the Edinburgh Film Festival is coming to The Studio at Lichfield 's Garrick Theatre next month.

Make-Up is written and directed by Walsall-born writer Andy Moseley and stars Fringe First winner Moj Taylor.

The Garrick performance is on Friday 12 May (7.45pm).

Make-Up 's story centres around Lady Christina, who leaves the stage at the end of her final show. She's tired of metro-sexual audiences looking for something a little risqu that they can tell their mothers about.

She's tired of young drag queens who make it look so easy, and she's tired of having to put on the make-up and become someone else every night.

But when the make-up comes off, the face in the mirror takes Christopher Laneghan back to the life he lived before she came along.

Make-Up was a big hit at last year's Edinburgh Fringe where it had a 26-day run at Underbelly, one of the largest and most renowned venues at the Fringe.

The play takes audiences backstage to meet the person behind the make-up.

Andy said: “Like many old school drag artists, Lady Christina isn 't just a character that Christopher Laneghan has created, she 's his alter ego, born out of everything he 's gone through. It 's only in the dressing room that the pieces fall into place and we really start to understand the person we see on the stage. ”

Make-up was one of the few plays that managed to premiere in 2020, opening at Brighton Fringe in October that year.

It was also streamed to worldwide audiences as part of the Marsh Stream International Solo Fest, organised by the Marsh Theatre, San Francisco in the same month.
