YMCA Burton attends event to celebrate one year anniversary of Burton MP
Jacob Collier, MP for Burton and Uttoxeter, joined charities, volunteers and community figures at an event to celebrate his first year as Burton and Uttoxeter’s MP recently.
The occasion was held at Langan’s Tea Rooms, where attendees enjoyed tea and cake prepared by graduates of the BAC O’ Connor Centre.
The event provided an opportunity to celebrate the hard work and dedication of organisations that help those in need across the community and to recognise positive collaborations with the MP.
Paul Laffey, chief executive of YMCA Burton & District, said: “It was a pleasure to assist in organising a community celebration to mark the first anniversary of Jacob Collier serving as Member of Parliament for Burton and Uttoxeter.
“Our thanks to the staff and volunteers at Langan’s Tea Rooms, for hosting the event and serving delicious refreshments.”
The event featured personal reflections, networking and a showcase of local charities that have benefited from constructive engagement with the MP’s office.
Jacob said: "I was honoured to mark one year as Burton and Uttoxeter’s MP surrounded by some of the amazing charities, community figures and volunteers from across the constituency.
“I am immensely proud to represent our area, support my constituents, meet local people at surgeries and coffee mornings and visit the businesses and charities who are the backbone of our community.
“I will continue to work hard to be the champion for Burton and Uttoxeter and deliver for local people.”
Speaking at the event, Paul Laffey highlighted the importance of civic collaboration and the YMCA’s mission to strengthen ties between community organisations and policymakers.
He thanked Jacob Collier for his contribution to launching YMCA Burton’s autumn fundraising campaign, which included him participating in the YMCA annual Sleepout and him becoming a Parliamentary Patron of YMCA England & Wales.
In this role, Jacob gets to represent the voice of young people in Burton & Uttoxeter and further afield.
Paul added: “As one of the youngest serving MPs in the country and as the YMCA works with young people, it is great to know that we have a young person who has stepped into Politics. We wish Jacob all the best for his future service as our Member of Parliament.”
YMCA Burton, under Paul Laffey’s leadership, is a Charity dedicated to empowering disadvantaged communities through its homelessness, mediation, foodbank, furniture, counselling, and outreach programmes.
The Charity works closely with East Staffordshire Borough Council, community organisations, Charities, housing associations and many local businesses to deliver its services and create opportunities for all.
