YMCA Burton has announced a change within its operations team as long-serving operations manager, Andy Horsnail retires from his role.

Andy’s retirement marks the conclusion of over 12 years of dedicated service, during which he played an integral part in strengthening operational processes, leadership and YMCA Burton’s core mission.

Following Andy’s departure, John Widdowson will step into the role of operations manager.

John brings extensive experience in operational leadership within the charity sector, having previously held senior roles at Burton Albion Community Trust, a local Burton charity with which YMCA Burton has a long-standing working relationship.

Chief executive Paul Laffey said: “This is a significant transition for YMCA Burton and I want to acknowledge Andy Horsnail’s service, leadership and commitment to the charity.

"It has been a pleasure to work with him and on behalf of our president, Ben Robinson, chair of Trustees, Lynn Chapman, trustees, staff and volunteers, we wish Andy the very best for his future with a long, fulfilling and well-deserved retirement.

"We were pleased to pay tribute to his many years of service at our recent Trustees meeting and our Annual staff and volunteers Christmas lunch. It was very special to reflect on many shared memories.

"Thank you, Andy, for all you have accomplished at YMCA Burton and all the lives you have helped to impact positively during your time as the operations manager.

"I offer a warm welcome to John who brings extensive expertise, knowledge and skills. We are thrilled to have him onboard, to further the development of our core services, managing many projects and initiatives within the community.”

John Widdowson said: "I feel truly blessed to begin this new chapter as part of the YMCA Burton family, building on the success of the work of Andy Horsnail.

"His dedication to managing YMCA services and strengthening the community in support of the Charity’s mission is inspiring. The YMCA’s heart for community and inclusion really resonates with me and I feel privileged and proud to contribute to its purpose.

"I’m inspired by the incredible volunteers and dedicated staff who make such a difference every day and I look forward to working alongside them to grow and develop our much needed services and create opportunities that positively impact lives.”

Andy Horsnail said: “When I joined YMCA Burton in July 2013, I hoped it would be the role that took me through to retirement. It's been a great journey and honour to be part of such a wonderful team, past and present.

"Every staff member and volunteer has helped make this a special, rewarding and truly altruistic place to work. I am excited for what the future holds, not only on a personal level, but also to see how YMCA Burton continues to grow and thrive serving the most vulnerable in our community."
