Black History Month event to focus on recognising heritage
The Black Business Collective in partnership with Colmore BID has announced the launch of “Standing Firm in Power and Pride”, a Black History Month event that celebrates the strength, heritage, and achievements of Black entrepreneurs, professionals, and creatives – past, present, and future.
Taking place at the Trowers & Hamlins offices on Tuesday, 7 October, the event will reflect on collective journeys, amplify voices, and reaffirm the commitment to success, dignity, and community.
Attendees can expect powerful stories from business leaders who’ve built legacies in the face of adversity, and opportunities to connect and celebrate together.
Beginning at 4:30pm with welcome drinks, the event will then kick off with an introduction from the Black Business Collective and Colmore Bid at 5pm.
The panel discussion will begin shortly after, featuring the voices of:
- Ini Umotong – former professional football player
- Byron Carnegie – panellist
- Jof Walters – fintech pioneer
Chris Cummins, co-founder of Baseline Mentoring Ltd, and Justice Williams, co-founder and editor in chief of Black Business Magazine, will chair the panel.
The panel will be followed by insights from keynote speaker Kameese Davis, award-winning entrepreneur and founder of Nylah’s Naturals, a pioneering UK haircare brand transforming textured hair and scalp wellness through science-led, holistic solutions.
There will then be a networking session at 6pm until 7:30pm.
Alicia Nelson (pictured), Black Business Collective engagement officer, said: “By hosting this Black History Month celebration, the Black Business Collective affirms that recognising our heritage is not just about honouring the past, but about empowering futures — elevating Black entrepreneurs, amplifying voices, and building a community rooted in pride, purpose and mutual success.”
