Business leaders tackle COP26 outcomes
Experts from the Greater Birmingham business community have been sharing knowledge and analysis to highlight the key outcomes from the COP26 climate change summit.
To coincide with the COP26 summit in Glasgow, the Greater Birmingham and Coventry & Warwickshire Chambers of Commerce held the Sustainable Business Series 2021: Net Zero campaign, which aimed to share best practice, guidance and knowledge on business progress to net zero, through blogs, videos, podcasts and webinars.
The campaign was sponsored by Arup, Aston University, Morgan Sindall and the University of Birmingham.
As part of the campaign, the COP26 outcomes have been debriefed by experts in a series of blogs and a panel video on the GBCC website.
The blogs cover topics ranging from the decarbonisation of heat to how businesses can get involved with nature for net zero.
The panel video hosts four experts (Prof. Martin Freer, director at the Birmingham Energy Institute and director at the Energy Research Accelerator; Helen Davis, director at Arup; Richard Kirkham, operations director, Morgan Sindall and Tim Miller, director of engagement, EBRI), discussing the COP 26 outcomes, and how businesses have responded to the increased need for climate action
Will Hargreaves (pictured), policy advisor at Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce, said: “Hosting COP 26 in the UK, amongst progressive emissions reduction targets from the Government and increased business action notes a landmark year for environmental progress in the UK.
“The outcomes from COP26 set the direction for investment, and business practices for years to come.
“Many of the announcements will start to increase the speed of decarbonisation across different sectors.
“To find out what we can expect, the issues businesses are facing, and how businesses can respond in the region, our COP 26 content can support this. ”
