Chamber connection helps Midlands consultancy land Teksan safety project
A health and safety consultancy has delivered a full management programme for the UK branch of a global power solutions firm – following an introduction through Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce.
Midlands Health & Safety Consultancy, which has branches in Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Stafford, was introduced to Teksan’s Birmingham depot through the Chamber.
Teksan, a Turkish-owned company with operations in more than 140 countries, has a UK and Ireland depot at Frankey Industrial Estate, just outside Birmingham.
The business required a full health and safety management system to ensure its Birmingham operation was compliant with UK standards.
The connection was made after Liam Round, UK and Ireland regional director for Teksan, discussed the requirement with GBCC relationship manager Jim Bourne.
Jim subsequently introduced Liam to Chad Bott, director and senior health and safety consultant at Midlands Health & Safety Consultancy, which supports more than 130 businesses across the UK.
Following an initial call and site visit, Midlands Health & Safety Consultancy developed a full health and safety management system for the depot.
The work included tasks such as creating an updated health and safety policy, staff induction pack, risk assessments for key tasks and an audit programme to ensure the system is embedded across the business.
Liam Round, UK and Ireland regional director for Teksan, said: “As a relatively agile UK operation backed by an international company, it was important for us to make sure our health and safety arrangements were aligned with UK standards.
“As regional director, I have overall responsibility for health and safety, but I recognised that we needed specialist expertise to put the right system in place.
“During a Chamber touch-base call, it was identified that there was someone within the GBCC network who could support us. That led to an introduction to Chad, followed by a call and site visit to understand what was required.
“We now have a fully operational health and safety management system in place, supporting everyone from staff and suppliers to visitors to the site.”
Liam added that the Chamber connection helped Teksan find the right support quickly.
He said: “I had looked online and reached out to companies across the UK, but Google can be a minefield.
“The real value of Chamber membership was being able to tap into that network and get connected quickly with a trusted local business that could help.”
Chad Bott (pictured), director and senior health and safety consultant at Midlands Health & Safety Consultancy, said: “Teksan has taken the right approach by putting a robust legal compliance system in place for its UK operation.
“We have written an up-to-date health and safety management system, including but not limited to the company’s health and safety policy, created an induction pack for staff and produced risk assessments for the tasks carried out within the business.
“We will also provide ongoing support through training, advice, audits and inspections.
“As part of that, we will visit the site three times a year to audit the team and ensure the system is being followed properly.”
The project highlights the role of Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce in connecting member businesses and helping them access specialist support through trusted local relationships.
Midlands Health & Safety Consultancy works with businesses across a range of sectors, providing support with compliance, risk assessments, audits, inspections, training and health and safety management systems.
Teksan provides energy solutions including diesel, natural gas and biogas generators, hybrid power systems, microgrids, solar panels, portable power stations and advanced battery storage solutions.
