Protecting businesses from cyber threats will be the focus of a webinar being hosted Burton & District and Cannock Chase Chambers.

The virtual event is taking place on 18 June, starting from 10am, and is part of a Burton and Cannock Chase themed week, as part of Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce's Festival of Business campaign throughout this month.

Thirty nine per cent of businesses reported a cyber security breach or attack in the last year, with over half experiencing an attack at least once a month.

As Cyber security poses a serious threat to businesses of all sizes and in every sector, the Cyber Essentials event will hear from Chamber patron Air IT and the IASME Consortium regarding the practical steps your organisation can take to reduce its risk of attack by up to 80 per cent through implementing the Government backed Cyber Essentials scheme.

Speaking on the scheme will be regional director for Air IT Birmingham, Andrew Penlington and chief operating officer for the IASME, Chris Pinder (pictured).

Andrew Penlington has over 20 years ' experience and has a deep understanding of the IT and communication sector, providing strategic advice and guidance to SMEs in the West Midlands and beyond on the secure and efficient use of technology.

Air IT also has its own specialist division in cyber security and is an IASME accredited Certification Body for the Cyber Essentials scheme.

Chris Pinder also has two decades worth of experience in the wider security industry, having previously worked on the promotion of UK security solutions to an international audience.

Moving to cyber security six years ago in his appointment as security lead for the Worcestershire Growth Hub, he is now responsible for the delivery of the IASME 's popular Cyber Essentials scheme.

The two speakers will cover a range of topics such as:

  • The threat landscape and most common types of attack
  • The perception and reality of an attack or breach
  • An introduction to the Cyber Essentials scheme
  • The five key controls to reduce risk from the most common types of attack
  • The path to becoming Cyber Essentials certified
  • Managing the evolving threat to keep your business protected

The event will be free for all members and non-members to attend.
