Charity announces return of Halloween ‘Scarecastle’

The Canal & River Trust charity has announced the return of its popular ‘Scarecastle’ event - a spooky Halloween canal adventure through Harecastle Tunnel in Staffordshire.

This year’s haunting experience will take place with a 40minute boat trip running from Monday 27 October to Sunday 2 November at Harecastle Tunnel on the Trent & Mersey Canal.

Visitors venturing into the tunnel will be surrounded by ghostly surprises and eerie encounters that make it a thrilling Halloween adventure for all ages.

Harecastle Tunnel stretches almost two miles underground and is one of the longest tunnels on the canal network.

Opened in 1777 it played a vital role in connecting the Midlands canal network to the Potteries and beyond.

Entry to Scarecastle event is priced at £5 per person, with the fee going towards the Canal & River Trust’s ongoing charity work to look after the region’s historic canals.

Simon Martin, from Canal & River Trust, said: “Harecastle Tunnel comes alive every year with frights, fun, and festive spirit, and we’re thrilled to welcome visitors back for another unforgettable Halloween experience.

“Going through the tunnel is very atmospheric and gives families a spooktacular adventure to remember.  Last year’s event was a sell out so book quickly to avoid missing out.”

The Halloween Scarecastle boat trips will operate from 2pm on Monday 27 October to Sunday 2 November, except Thursday 30 October.

Visitors are encouraged to arrive in time for their scheduled slot. A minibus is available to take visitors back to the tunnel portal.
