Firms urged to sign up for Chamber sustainability campaign
Businesses can express an interest in taking part in Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce 's Sustainable Business Series, which is returning for a second year.
It is the GBCC 's flagship campaign on the transition to net zero and consists of:
- A webinar looking at the practical measures businesses can take in reducing their energy bills, at a time when energy prices are spiralling
- Four weekly themes on reducing your carbon footprint, low carbon business opportunities, decarbonisation and climate resilience. Each themed week will include a podcast, webinar and blog posts.
- The Sustainable Business Series Conference held on 2 November, featuring West Midlands mayor Andy Street as a keynote speaker
The campaign endeavours to support business decarbonisation to meet the national legislated net zero target and build a resilient low carbon economy, tackling climate change.
This will be achieved through increasing awareness and stimulating action on business contributions to net zero, by utilising business and stakeholder knowledge, best practice and guidance.
Headline sponsors for the campaign include Aston University and the University of Birmingham
Last year 's campaign included contributions from 50 different businesses. More than 400 delegates attended event across a five-week period.
Kuran Singh, policy advisor at GBCC, said: “The Sustainable Business Series is back and looks to draw on the expertise of organisations across the region, sharing best practice, guidance, and knowledge so that the wider business community can gain insight on how to adapt to, and benefit from decarbonisation and the transition to net zero.
“The importance of embracing the net zero agenda has never been stronger and it is crucial that Birmingham as a region, positions itself to take advantage of the opportunities that emerge as the world pushes on towards net zero.
“A key aim of the series is to foster a strong level of resilience among the local business community, ensuring productivity thrives as we rise to the challenge of climate change. ”
