Metro service changes announced as engineering works commence

West Midlands Metro passengers will face a series of service changes throughout February 2026 as essential engineering works are carried out to prepare for a major network extension to Dudley and to complete maintenance at Wolverhampton St George’s.

From Saturday 7 February, Wolverhampton St George’s stop will be temporarily closed while signalling equipment is replaced.

During this period, trams will operate every eight minutes between Wolverhampton Station and Edgbaston Village.

The stop is expected to reopen as planned once the upgrade work is completed.

Further disruption will follow later in the month as tie-in works take place to connect the existing tram line to the new Dudley extension.

From 9.15pm on Monday 16 February until the end of service on Wednesday 18 February, trams will again run every eight minutes, but only between Wednesbury Great Western Street and Wolverhampton Station.

There will be no tram service between Wednesbury Great Western Street and Edgbaston Village during this time.

Normal services across the full line are due to resume from the start of service on Thursday 19 February.

In addition to the changes to tram operations, West Midlands Metro has confirmed alterations to last tram times on Monday 16 February.

The final departure from Wolverhampton Station to Edgbaston Village will be at 8.15pm. The last tram from Wolverhampton Station to Wednesbury Parkway will leave at 12:30am.

Services from Edgbaston Village to Wolverhampton Station will finish at 7.15pm, while the final service from Edgbaston Village to Wednesbury Parkway will depart at 9:15pm.

To reduce disruption for passengers, ticket acceptance arrangements will be in place across alternative transport options while the works are carried out.

Metro tickets will be accepted on National Express bus services operating between Wednesbury bus station and West Bromwich, between West Bromwich and Birmingham City Centre, and on services running between Colmore Row and Edgbaston Village.

Timetables on these routes have been enhanced to support connections with the first and last tram services.

In addition, West Midlands Railway will accept Metro tickets between Wolverhampton and Birmingham on its Five Ways route, although this arrangement will apply to season ticket holders only.

Passengers are advised to check journey details in advance and allow extra time where possible.
