New female musical comedy set to wow audiences at Lichfield’s Garrick Theatre
A great night out with a difference is on its way to Lichfield’s Garrick Theatre – in the shape of new musical comedy Disenchanted!
This Garrick is swapping style for substance in the professional UK premiere of Disenchanted! —a hilarious new musical extravaganza debunking once-and-for-all the myth of the ‘damsel-in-distress’.
The publicity blurb says: “Wave goodbye to the traditional beauty obsessed, ditzy, and insecure princess; say hello to our cast of bold, brilliant, young women ready to raise the roof (or smash a few glass ceilings).”
Next spring, the Lichfield Garrick will unveil the plucky Snow White, the disillusioned Cinderella, the unpredictable Sleeping Beauty, the unapologetic Hua Mulan, the ethereal Princess (Who Kissed the Frog), the rebellious Little Mermaid, the authentic Pocahontas, the progressive Rapunzel, the witty Belle, and the misogyny-busting Princess Badroulbadour.
Bursting onto the scene with a sell-out run off Broadway before being performed in five continents, Disenchanted! is the multi-award-nominated brainchild of Dennis T. Giacino (Dramatists Guild of America) and Fiely Matias (Asian American international sketch comedian).
The Garrick will be home to the UK professional debut of the show, with Disenchanted! swapping the spires of the Chrysler Building for the Three Spires, giving the people of Lichfield and surrounding areas the first chance to take a bite out of the Big Apple’s latest export.
Gemma East, Chief Operating Officer at the Garrick said: “We’re thrilled to announce that the Lichfield Garrick Theatre will be home to the professional premiere of this well-loved musical. Our audiences love a great night out and something a bit different; so Disenchanted! is perfect. With a twist on familiar characters, riotous musical numbers, and laugh-out-loud one-liners, we’re incredibly excited to see how our audiences respond to this smash hit from across the pond.”
Disenchanted! will make its professional UK theatre debut in the Main Auditorium of the Lichfield Garrick on Friday 24 April and will be running until Saturday 2 May.
With use of strong language, references to self-harm, and sexual references, the show comes at an age rating of 14+ (parental discretion is advised).
