New partner appointment boosts law firm’s intellectual property and technology practice
Squire Patton Boggs has appointed Matthew Harris as a partner in its Intellectual Property and Technology Practice Group in Birmingham. He joins the firm from Gowling WLG.
Matt (pictured) is a commercial technology lawyer advising clients on strategic technology matters and complex transactions.
He supports organisations on IT and outsourcing arrangements, digital transformation projects, software development and licensing, SaaS, data commercialisation, artificial intelligence, as well as technology and data regulation, including data privacy.
He has more than 10 years’ experience across the retail, telecommunications, energy and manufacturing sectors, among others.
David Elkins, Squire Patton Boggs’ global Intellectual Property & Technology practice group leader, said: “Matt is a talented and versatile practitioner with a depth of experience acting for both UK and international clients on complex IT and outsourcing projects.
“Matt’s capabilities and track record will add greater strength to our team, and he will be a real asset to our clients.”
Matt said: “I have been impressed by Squire Patton Boggs’ global platform, collaborative spirit and the scale of the cross-border work undertaken for clients.
“The firm’s investment in Birmingham and the growth of its transactional teams are also factors that attracted me to this opportunity, and I am looking forward to developing my practice working alongside a team that has already made me feel very welcome.”
Tom Durrant, Birmingham office managing partner, added: “We are committed to growing our office across key practice areas, and Matt is one of several partners we’ve welcomed in recent months - underscoring that commitment.
“Matt’s proven ability to build strong client relationships makes him an excellent fit with our team as we look ahead to further growth, driven by strong client demand for our services.”
Matt is the latest partner to join the firm in Birmingham following the recent arrival of transactional partners Alison Davidson-Cox, Deborah Brown and Partho Chaudhuri. The firm has also announced that it will be moving to a new office in Birmingham later this year.
