Restart scheme urges firms to engage with new initiative to tackle youth unemployment

Employment support

The Serco Restart Scheme is on the lookout for employers to participate in a programme that supports long-term unemployed individuals to work.

The initiative comes after the Government’s recent announcement to support up to one million young people with employment, training and work experience opportunities.

Serco currently delivers the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) flagship Restart Scheme programme in the West Midlands, which supports long-term unemployed individuals into work.

In advance of the new youth focused initiative going live, Serco are seeking to engage with employers in Birmingham and Solihull who would be interested in getting involved in this new initiative.

Full details about the initiative are expected early this year, however, it is anticipated that employers are likely to be reimbursed wages for up to 25 hours a week for 6 months. Previous youth schemes have also offered funding towards employee training costs.

Andy Bowie, director of Employability for Serco said: “Every day, our dedicated team transforms lives across the West Midlands with employment and training support.

“Since 2021, we have supported over 30,000 individuals in West Central England and Wales to secure employment through the Restart Scheme.

“Our training programmes, rated 'Good' by Ofsted, continue to equip learners with in-demand skills.

“We are ready to support more businesses with access to funded employment and training solutions that inspires individuals and strengthens local economies.”

Firms are invited to register their interest to get involved with this new youth initiative by emailing [email protected] with the company name, details and the number and type of positions available to offer, no later than Friday 30 January.

This is an expression of interest only and is on a no obligation basis, as further details of this youth initiative develops.
