Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer Mel Stride visited Touchwood Solihull yesterday to meet local town centre business ahead of the local elections.

Mel took the time to speak with local business operators and owners at Yakinori Japanese Kitchen, Castle Fine Art and Liv's, taking in the views of local operators as they find it increasingly tough in the face of rising taxation and inflation. He also visited the Solihull town centre and Mell Suqare.

Mel was greeted by Solihull BID CEO Melanie Palmer, local MP Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst, Touchwood general manager Tony Elvin and Troy Yeomans, centre manager for Mell Square.

Touchwood general manager Tony Elvin said: “It was great to see Mel take some time out to visit real Solihull businesses and along with our local MPs Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst and Saqib Bhatti, they do seem to understand the need to support retail and hospitality.

“These businesses, with a little support, could help the Government reduce youth unemployment and get people off of welfare and paying into the economy.”
