Leading training provider Performance Through People (PTP) has been approved by the Government to expand its provision to deliver managerial skills in the West Midlands.

Performance Through People, which has its headquarters in Walsall, has been approved by the Department of Education to build its resources to become an accredited Chartered Management Institute centre, following a successful tender process.

From September, PTP will offer the 18-month CMI level 5 diploma for operational leaders and managers. Potential candidates can apply now, with no formal entry requirements to join the programme other than being employed in a relevant job role.

The course is being offered as a higher technical qualification, an educational training route promoted by the Government to bridge the skills gap in technical industries by providing specialised knowledge and skills.

The Department of Education is supporting training providers to deliver these qualifications as a way to support learners to higher-level occupations through upskilling, sitting alongside apprenticeship provision and degree courses.

Performance Through People deliver a wide range of accredited apprenticeship courses, bespoke commercial programmes and a range of government funded schemes to suit the needs of customers, which range from SMEs to leading national brands.

Performance Through People has driven regional employment initiatives and since 2014 been a key partner in the delivery of the Ladder apprenticeship scheme which expanded from the Black Country to encompass Greater Birmingham, Coventry and Warwickshire, Shropshire and Staffordshire.

The managerial training will be delivered through a mixture of workshops and assignments aligned to the teaching, together with ongoing coaching support of an appointed tutor who will work with candidates to provide personal, ongoing feedback on progress.

Gill Durkin, business executive at Performance Through People, said: “We are delighted to have been secured accreditation to deliver this programme designed to enhance the skills of practising managers and leaders who are typically accountable to a senior manager or business owner.

“On completion of the programme, candidates will have a good understanding of a range of subject areas at a strategic level including communication, project management, resource management, self-management and stakeholder relationships, and be able to create and deliver strategic aims in line with their organisation’s long and short-term goals.

Richard Kendrick, Curriculum Director, said: “The new managerial training programme will build on the proud history of Performance Through People in delivering exceptional training and development opportunities to meet the needs of learners and businesses for more than 50 years.

“As businesses look to address gaps in skills, managerial training will be vital to shape the leaders of tomorrow so we look forward to working with learners across the West Midlands to develop good quality learning to shape their future careers.”

Based at headquarters in Essex Terrace, Intown in Walsall, Performance Through People employ 78 members of staff across its training centres throughout Birmingham, the Black Country, and Staffordshire.

The training provider offers bespoke learning and development opportunities together with a wide range of apprenticeship programmes including healthcare, warehousing and logistics, saddlery and leather skills, finance, retail, and dental nursing.

Wit its roots dating from 1947, The Chartered Management Institute (CMI) works with business and education to inspire people to become skilled, confident and successful managers and leaders.
