WMG Academy student placed among top one per cent nationally in reading
A student from WMG Academy Solihull has achieved the top one per cent nationally in reading.
Suleiman Afridi achieved the highest possible score in a nationally standardised reading assessment which has placed him in the top one per cent of students nationally for reading comprehensive, vocabulary and literacy.
Achieving the maximum standardised score is an exceptionally rare accomplishment and reflects not only outstanding academic ability but also years of dedication, curiosity and a genuine love of reading.
Developing strong literacy skills enables students to think critically, communicate effectively and confidently engage with the complex technical knowledge required for future careers.
Sian O’Malley, assistant principal for teaching and learning at WMG Academy Solihull, said: “Employers consistently tell us that communication, critical thinking and problem-solving are among the most valuable skills young people can develop.
“Reading sits at the heart of all three. This remarkable achievement highlights what can be accomplished when students are challenged, supported and inspired to develop a lifelong love of reading.
“We are incredibly proud of Suleiman's success and of the culture of high aspiration we continue to build across the academy.”
Suleiman said: “I feel ecstatic about this achievement. Reading from a young age has really paid off.”
Suleiman's outstanding success will be recognised as part of the academy's end-of-year celebrations, where his achievement will inspire fellow students to continue developing a lifelong love of reading.
