As the sales office manager at Institution of Engineering and Technology, she talks about the need for greater support for women in leadership roles, breaking down stereotypes through a culture of respect, and the value of strong professional relationships.

What changes would you like to see for women in business in Greater Birmingham?

Greater support for women to progress into leadership roles across all sectors in Birmingham would make a real difference.

Creating stronger mentoring networks, increasing visibility of female role models, and encouraging flexible working opportunities can help more women grow their careers while balancing other commitments.

What is one action you could take to challenge gender bias or stereotypes?

One action I can take to challenge gender bias is actively champion and support women's voices in the workplace.

This includes ensuring ideas are recognised, encouraging confidence in speaking up, and promoting equal opportunities for leadership and development.

By fostering a culture of respect and inclusion within my organisation and the wider business community in Birmingham, we can help break down stereotypes and create a more balanced and supportive environment for everyone.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced as a woman in business and how did you overcome it?

One of the biggest challenged I have faced as a women in business has been ensuring my voice is heard and recognised in a fast -paced result driven environment.

Early in my career I sometimes found myself needing to work harder to demonstrate my expertise and leadership.

I overcame this by building confidence in my knowledge, speaking up more in meetings, and consistently delivering results. Over time this has helped establish credibility and trust with colleagues and clients.

This year’s IWD theme is Give to Gain. How will you give back to either your organisation or community to help drive more change?

By encouraging and supporting other women within my organisation and the wider business community in Birmingham.

Sharing knowledge, offering guidance, and creating opportunities for others to grow can make a real difference in building confidence and career progression.

Working in the events industry also allows me to help create spaces where people can connect, collaborate and share ideas.

By continuing to Champion inclusivity, mentorship, and collaboration, we can help drive meaningful change and open more doors for the next generation of women in business.

What’s one piece of advice you would give to women looking to succeed in your industry?

Believe in your abilities, stay confident in your voice, and never underestimate the value of building strong, professional relationships. The events industry is fast-paced and people-focused, so being adaptable, collaborative and resilient is key.

Don't be afraid to step out your comfort zone , take on new challenges and continue learning.

By supporting one another and sharing experiences, women can continue to grow and succeed within the industry in Birmingham and beyond.
