University to host reception showcasing regional sustainability research and innovation

The University of Birmingham is set to welcome business leaders from across the region to a reception showcasing opportunities and expertise to spark ideas for collaboration between industry and academia.

With a focus on sustainable future, the gathering will spotlight the wide range of opportunities available to organisations seeking to work with the university from commercially driven, research-led partnerships to philanthropic initiatives that deliver meaningful societal impact.

It will take place at the University of Birmingham premises on Thursday 12 February, from 5.30pm to 7.15 pm.

Speakers include:

  • Alasdair MacLachlan, assistant director, Business Engagement & Research Impact, University of Birmingham
  • Tim Naughton, founder & technical director, Salinity Solutions
  • Dr Emma Ferranti, associate professor in Civil Engineering and Co‑Investigator for WM‑Adapt, University of Birmingham
  • Jake Prestage, commercial manager (UK&I), Nippon Gases
  • Dr John Williams, CTO, Aquapak Polymers Ltd
  • Professor Caroline Moraes, director – Centre for Responsible Business, University of Birmingham

Registration is free but places are limited.

Attendees will hear first-hand from regional businesses that have already benefited from working with University of Birmingham researchers, with short talks showcasing how strategic collaboration accelerates innovation and supports a greener regional economy.

They will also hear from leading academics who will share insights into their pioneering work at the forefront of the green industrial revolution, demonstrating how research is driving real change across industry and society.
