YMCA Burton has paid tribute to one of its long-serving trustees following their retirement from the Board, marking the occasion during the charity's recent Annual General Meeting.

Departing trustee, Dr Charles Pidsley (pictured), was thanked for his seven years of dedicated service, commitment, and invaluable contribution to the charity’s mission of supporting the communities across East Staffordshire and the surrounding area.

During the meeting, members formally elected new trustee, Stephen Beech to the Board, reflecting on YMCA Burton's ongoing commitment to strong governance and ensuring the organisation remains well positioned to meet the changing needs of the communities it serves.

Paul Laffey, YMCA Burton CEO, said: “Our Board of Trustees who are all volunteers hold a tremendous amount of responsibility.

“They provide vital governance and ensure we remain true to our constitution and our memorandum and articles. We are incredibly grateful for the time, skills, expertise and dedication they give so generously.

“On behalf of our president, Ben Robinson, our chair of trustees, Lynn Chapman, all of our trustees, staff and volunteers, we would like to offer our sincere thanks to Dr Charles Pidsley for his wonderful service and commitment to YMCA Burton.

“His contribution has been invaluable. At the same time, we are delighted to welcome Stephen Beech to the Board and look forward to the knowledge and fresh perspectives he will bring as we continue to support local communities.”

The AGM also featured a guest presentation from Michelle Ugwueze, Inspector and Deputy Commander at East Staffordshire Police, who spoke about her upbringing, family, faith, career and challenges she has faced.

She shared powerful insights on resilience, collaboration and the importance of community cohesion.
